Rasa is a Sanskrit word that means “essence” of an art that evokes an emotion in others.
Rasa & Rhythm is a facilitated journey that invites children to explore their emotional world through the magic of storytelling and expressive Indian dance guided by the beat of live percussion.
Co-facilitated by dancer Soumee De and musician Lalit Kumar, this immersive experience encourages children to express a wide range of emotions in a safe, playful, and creative space. As they move to the rhythm, play instruments, and connect with stories, they also learn to identify, empathize with, and regulate their feelings through the practice breath movement.
As this is a work-in-development performance, children and adults are required to provide feedback at the end of the session in an effort to help artist further develop the work. Photo and videos will be taken for archival and marketing purposes.
ETHOS: Exploring the Odissi Spirit is a dance collective of Indian classical dancers who perform, teach, practice a traditional classical dance form, Odissi. Soumee founded ETHOS in 2014 and offers workshops for young audiences at The Artground, museums and schools. The sessions include creating take-home craft, story-telling from Indian mythology and dance movements to communicate thoughts, actions and feelings. Soumee also teaches Odissi at Apsaras Arts Academy, builds a better working world as a Consultant at EY and is passionate about building the next generation of leaders!
