Sensory Letters

A playful beginning to a lifelong love of language and stories

Before your child says their first word, they’re already telling stories! The way they reach for a scarf, tap to a beat, or giggle at a silly sound. These are the beginnings of language. In those small moments, their brains are building connections for communication, reading, and writing. Sensory Letters is here to celebrate and nurture that magical stage. Through play, song, stories, and sensory exploration, we invite babies and toddlers to discover the joy of language, long before ABC. And we give parents a front-row seat to watch it unfold.

StoryPlay (18 to 30 months)

A sensory journey into stories, rhymes, and scribbles.

As toddlers grow, their language and creative skills blossom. StoryPlay is a joyful early literacy play programme designed for children aged 18 to 30 months that encourages expression through gestures, sounds, scribbles, rhymes, and songs. Each session invites toddlers into a rich sensory world where stories are not just heard, but felt and explored with the whole body. StoryPlay weaves together storytelling, rhyme, sensory invitations, and open-ended materials to support early communication, fine motor development, and joyful self-expression.

Caregivers discover practical tools and deeper understanding of how meaningful play nurtures early language skills, confidence, and the foundational building blocks of literacy long before reading begins. This programme also offers a community space for caregivers to connect, share, and celebrate the many ways toddlers make meaning and express themselves in their world.

What to expect in StoryPlay:

  • Engaging story circles and rhymes that invite hands-on language use

  • Literacy invitations with materials designed to foster early writing and mark making

  • Insights to your child’s development and tools to support literacy at home

  • Opportunities for connection, reflection, and shared learning among caregivers

  • A session structure including welcome, story circle, literacy play, invitation, caregiver reflection, and a goodbye song

Our programmes provide a safe, nurturing space where your child’s natural curiosity and creativity can thrive through play and storytelling. Join us to support your child’s emerging language, early literacy, and imagination in a community that honours every child’s unique journey.

Together, let’s nurture the joy of discovery and help your little one take their very first steps into a lifelong adventure of learning.

About the Artist(s)

Hello! I am Ruby Topas, a name filled with gems. As it turns out, I love everything that is glittery and colourful. One of my favourite childhood snacks is iced gem biscuits.

I am an early childhood educator for over 15 years. I was leading a child care centre for 5 years. Inspired by the many child-centered approaches to education, in particular, the Reggio Emilia and Constructivist Approaches, I believe that young children are meaning-makers that express themselves simply through purposeful play as well as creative art and movement.

My favourite things are reading and collecting baby and children’s storybooks, visiting neighbourhood and thrift stores for all the quirky interesting materials and tools used as children’s play and art making, as well as collecting sea shells and rocks.
