Sensory Letters
A playful beginning to a lifelong love of language and stories
Before your child says their first word, they’re already telling stories! The way they reach for a scarf, tap to a beat, or giggle at a silly sound. These are the beginnings of language. In those small moments, their brains are building connections for communication, reading, and writing. Sensory Letters is here to celebrate and nurture that magical stage. Through play, song, stories, and sensory exploration, we invite babies and toddlers to discover the joy of language, long before ABC. And we give parents a front-row seat to watch it unfold.
Material Matters (6 - 18 months)
Where everyday materials spark extraordinary play
This gentle introduction to play, stories, and discovery invite babies into a calm, beautifully curated space inspired by Reggio Emilia principles. Designed specifically for young ones aged 6 to 18 months, Material Matters encourages slow, mindful exploration through open-ended materials that babies can touch, reach for, grasp, and respond to in their own unique ways.
Each session blends sensory experiences with interactive storytelling. Babies engage with textures, colours, and sounds alongside early narratives brought to life through movement, rhythm, and connection. We honour each child as a curious, capable communicator and expressive whole-being, creating space for play that speaks a hundred languages.
Caregivers are welcomed to join their babies in play, observe their discoveries, and share in the joy of this early journey. Through gentle observation and shared experiences, caregivers gain invaluable insights into how play fosters curiosity, focus, expression, early brain development, emerging literacy, expressive language, and emotional connection. Together, we nurture the joy of being fully present as babies make meaning of their world and take their first steps into imagination.
What to expect in Material Matters:
- A calm, baby-led play environment
-
Safe, open-ended materials to touch, move, and explore
-
embedded storytelling using gentle props, sounds, and rhythm
-
Opportunities to build connection, curiosity, and early communication
-
A session structure that includes settling in, invitation to play, interactive storytelling, caregiver reflection, and a goodbye song.
Our programmes provide a safe, nurturing space where your child’s natural curiosity and creativity can thrive through play and storytelling. Join us to support your child’s emerging language, early literacy, and imagination in a community that honours every child’s unique journey.
Together, let’s nurture the joy of discovery and help your little one take their very first steps into a lifelong adventure of learning.
Hello! I am Ruby Topas, a name filled with gems. As it turns out, I love everything that is glittery and colourful. One of my favourite childhood snacks is iced gem biscuits.
I am an early childhood educator for over 15 years. I was leading a child care centre for 5 years. Inspired by the many child-centered approaches to education, in particular, the Reggio Emilia and Constructivist Approaches, I believe that young children are meaning-makers that express themselves simply through purposeful play as well as creative art and movement.
My favourite things are reading and collecting baby and children’s storybooks, visiting neighbourhood and thrift stores for all the quirky interesting materials and tools used as children’s play and art making, as well as collecting sea shells and rocks.
